have you listened to one of them live? How would you know whether they can or can't sing without backup. I don't listen to very many singers sing acapella and I doubt I would enjoy any concert with no music backup. And why would you go to any of their concerts to make that assumption. You don't watch them on TV so we know taht you would never go to a concert. But thanks for your baseless assumption and even more baseless conclusions.

I have only heard some of them do the National Anthem at sporting events and snippets of concerts on TV when they were performing live. I actually go to a good number of concerts and/or live music shows. The performers I see sound exactly the same whether it is a CD or live and it isn't because they use special equipment to make them sound good. It isn't only American Idol, there are a good number of mainstream bands that sound like crap when they are live.

wow, guess I need to defer to your expertise to what supposedly sounds good. I know that Carrie Underwood sounds good. At least I thought so. I know that Kelly Clarkson is good. At least I thought so. I know that Jennifer Hudson was awesome in DreamGirls. At least I thought so. But because you think they sound like crap makes your the final judge.

And judging ANYBODY on how they sing the Nationl Anthem is pretty tough. I think I have only heard two or three arrangements of that song that I thought were geat. Other than that, it isn't a song to determine who can sing or not. Unless you are Roseanne Barr.....

The American Idol schlubs are all designed to be pre-packaged, plastic pablum musically. I will say Chris Daughtry is okay and Kelly Clarkson has a fairly nice voice, but the rest are just total generic crap. I'd rather listen to Bob Dylan get a colonoscopy, and I HATE Dylan's voice.
