Because much of America doesn't like intelligent entertainment and would rather watch televised karaoke than something decent. And to the people who call is "wholesome", don't even start: belittling performers on a weekly basis is not "wholesome". It's a stupid, plastic popularity contest aimed at 12-year-old girls where talent means essentially nothing. I heard a bit from Simon Cowell the other day where he even admitted it, saying Chris Daughtry should have won if it were based on talent.

and what kind of 'intelligent entertainment' do you watch Herschel?

The voting might be a popularity contest, but Daughtery was part of the talent that we watched. Once it gets down to the final 10, I think it is pretty entertaining for the most part. But I realy am curious as to what you watch that makes you slam this one so hard!!

I'd rather freebase belly button lint. Smiler

I don't watch much network TV. I like "Numbers" on those Friday Nights I'm actually home, which is few, and I do watch "How I Met Your Mother" and "Two and a Half Men" for cheap laughs on occasion, but otherwise it's movies or History Channel, Discovery, Food Network, etc.

Thumbs Up

The other part that bothers me is that there are many talented musicians in this world that never get a chance to be heard because of the way the music industry operates and how radio stations play the same crap over and over.

give it up!!! YOu don't like it! We get it! Go rent a CSI episode and have fun. And for the Carrie Underwoods, Chris Daughterys, Jennifer Hudson, Kelly Clarksons, these kids have a ton of talent as evidence by their success. If that is televised Karaoke then Karaoke just got a whole lot better. Once they get the exposure of the top 12, it really does not matter who wins. Jennifer Hudson didnt make top 5 and she just won an Oscar for her singing and acting performance in DreamGirls. Most of the kids that make the top ten have a recording deal so who wins is really irrelevant. Daughtery is having success today because of exposure. The best singer this year will probably not win either but will probably have the best career. I doubt seriously that the 12 yr old girls are doing all the voting. By the time voting opens, those 12 yr old girls are fast asleep.

And cry me a river about all the artists that never get a chance. The kids that are on this show beat the odds of probably one in a million to get their shot. Probably worse odds than the artist trying to make it that "never get their chance."

You truly believe that the contestants AREN'T hand-picked by the producers?!?! That the final 12 is there cuz of their singing?!?!

The final 12 are not picked by the producers, The final 24 are tho. So what. Should the voting have been allowed for the William Hungs of the contest. One season would last 10 yrs.

Some most definitely aren't there because of their singing and that's rather easy to tell. Most of them are, however, which has been proven by their success after the show. Can you say that Chris Daughtry and Carrie Underwood are no-talent hacks?

I don't understand all the angst over this show. It's cute, it's fun, and sometimes you get to hear some really outstandnig talent take the stage. That's all.

Go listen to one of them live and tell me that they can even sing without all the voice enhancement crap they use.

Ummmmmmm... yes the final 12 are. You think the producers of a multi-million dollar show are gonna allow the viewing public to pick who they want on the show?! The results can be, and are manipulated by the producers however they wish. This show is not a democracy, ask King Nigel.

Never said they were. Not my point, my point is the show AND THE RESULTS are controlled by the producers.

go start another conspiracy theory somewhere that people don't call you out on it. Nobody is buying the garbage you are selling.

So by your standards anybody that likes the show is a "sheeple"? Well Baaaaaa to you. Now go outside and watch for the black helicopters to come and take you away or back to where ever you came from....
