I am redoing a room for my son. Does anyone know what is really good or a techique to use to get a whole wall of wallpaper off plaster?

get one of these

take a wet rag and make the whole thing damp. Let it sit and soak for awhile and hope that it comes off easy. I even put a humidifier in the room for awhile to help the humidity soak in. You can't over do it, or leave it wet to long, that caused other problems.

If they used good glue, you may have to use a putty knife to scrape the paper off.

One room in our house had no paint or anything under the (cheap) wallpaper, that really sucked. Good stuff will peel off in one sheet, the cheap stuff needed to be scraped off little by little. With no paint/primer between the paper and drywall, it made a real mess of the wall. I had to do a lot of mud work to make the wall smooth again.

I hate wallpaper almost as much as I hate nextell.

You can use this before the paper tiger. I have used it for borders and such, but wallpaper is it's own animal - it is usually glued on like hell.

But, if you are lucky, it will come off fairly easy with this, the tiger, and a putty knife.

Good luck.

Try making maple syrup. It's getting close to sap season, so get about 40 gallons of sap and boil it down to make a gallon of syrup. Of course you may dewallpaper your whole house but it's worth it. Yum!!

A little caution with the paper tiger. I used one my first time taking down wallpaper. I borrowed it from a friend sans directions. I figured if a little was good more was better. After putting on the wallpaper remover solution, the paper came off real easy. One problem I had used and pressed the paper tiger so much that the drywall was covered with hundreds of little holes that then needed spackeling. Live and learn.

From recent personal experience...

It depends what kind of walls you want after the wallpaper is off. If you want smooth walls with no texture, than you're better off taking the drywall down and putting up new drywall. Obviously you need to hire someone for that.

If you want textured walls, then take the paper off real good and hire someone to spray new texture on the walls. There are way too many imperfections left behind after taking down wallpaper. You have to use compound, smooth it, sand it, etc. Even then, without texture it may look bad when sunlight hits it. It may not bother you but the next person buying your house may give two ****es.

It takes a precise touch, but one of these will do the trick if there's multiple layers or extremely tough glue.
