My PC is 8 years old and just yesterday, I heard this clicking coming from the tower... Then the screen went Blue... I turned the computer off and then restarted it and the text was something like I need to put in a rebootable disc? Thoughts?

I just tryed the computer again today and when it was booting it up, I kept hearing this click, click from the tower then it stopped.. The text said.."Disk boot failture. insert system disk and press enter. The only way I could turn the computer off was the off button.. When I did, the computer was still running and the moniter had no power so I had to turn it off from the surge protector.. Any thoughts? In terms of system disk, there is no way I could remotley find a system disk.

Thanks,

R

There is indeed a problem in that your computer cannot see the hard disk. There could be several possible causes:

Go into the system setup, and see if the hard disk is defined there. If it is not, you may need to enter the settings that are appropriate for your hard disk. If you don't have the documentation for this, you will need to call your computer manufacturers tech support.

If that doesn't solve the problem, open the case of the computer and make sure that the hard disk cable is securely connected to both the drive and the motherboard. While you're in there use a can of compressed air to blow out the dust.

If that doesn't fix the problem, it's possible that the Master Boot Record has become corrupt. To fix this you will need a boot disk of the operating system that is on your hard disk. You will the file fdisk.exe. Boot to the disk and at the prompt type in fdisk /mbr . If it comes back with an error that it cannot find the drive, your drive has failed and will need to be replaced. Hopefully you have a recent backup. Good luck!

The clicking sound is a sure sign that your hard drive bit the big one. Hopefully you have your important stuff backed up.

Seems fairly inexpensive Rman. Looks like a good deal depending on what you need it for.
