You see ads all the time. And I've also seen some talk on message boards about Dish and DTV.
Bottom line. What can I all get for nothing? What is there all to ask for?? Thanx in advance for the help. |

OK, here's what I posted on the Packer board. I didn't get the HBO though but I got the $10/mo discount and now they said my normal Starz is reduced to $2/month. (I'll have to wait and see what the bill says)
from the other thread I posted:

That's crazy!!! My renewal was $209, but if it is higher than that next year to renew, I might just think, about giving it up (notice I said THINK)

What do you currently subscribe to: cable, Dish Network, DirecTV, or rabbit ears? |

I have Directv and from what I understand the only major difference between it and Dish is the Sunday Ticket.
DTV is running a deal now if you sign up online for new service and for Sunday Ticket (4 payments of $69.99) you get 4 months free of their top programming package, Total Choice Premier (250 channels including 31 premium movie channels). The equipment and installation are free. You also get a free DVR or a free HD receiver upgrade (if you have HD) and a free portable DVD player. That's a pretty good deal. Their Total Choice Premier runs $99.99 a month. So in essence you are getting it for $69.99 a month and getting Sunday Ticket for free. After four months you pick whatever package you want. |

What I would do (and what I have just done when I upgraded to DVR), is contact both Dish and DirecTV multiple times, and try to get the best deal. When you call DirecTV and mention you are leaning towards Dish Network (and vice versa), you really find out what they will offer. And it would also help if you had a goal as to what you want for a deal (free ultimate package, discount on NFL ticket (not sure on that one), free hw, or something else). My goal as a DirecTV customer was to upgrade to DVR and receive free equipment . After 3-4 phone calls, I finally got it. As a new customer, you should get the equipment free, and 6 free months of the premium package at a minimum (I got that when I started). Not sure on the NFL ticket if they will give you a deal or not. |

No. It's only for the promo period. After that you can choose any package you want.
No. You only need the Sports Package which is $12 a month. It's $10 a month if you subscribe to another premium package or $8 a month if you subscribe to two premium packages. *PH comment* Dammit. Sorry, hoophead. I edited your message instead of quoting it. |

I'm not sure where that quote attributed to me came from.
I never use the word "prolly". |

Vic -
A few other questions yet - In the Sports Pack , do you get all thats shown or just CSTV,FSNN and ESPNU? I dont see Fox College Sports, ie Atlantic,Central, or Pacific anywhere When the Badgers(hoops) were on ESPN+ I would pick it up on WISC3 out of Madison, but that is a local channel that is not available here on DTV. What to do? With the DVR - can record 2 channels at same time(can do that now with Charter's DVR)?? What do you see as time commitment with that current offer of Sunday Ticket, etc? |

You get everything that's shown for the sports pack. A few things will be blacked out, i.e. baseball games.
Interestingly Fox College Sports isn't available yet. It's interesting because DirecTV is owned by Rupert Murdoch, who owns Fox. I expect it soon. Not sure about Badger hoops there. Around here most of those games were carried locally on Milwauke Channel 41. I don't have the DirecTV DVR (I'm waiting for the new HD MPEG-4 DVR's to be out soon). But right from the DirecTV website: Pause and rewind live TV. Record up to 100 hours — even two shows at once. I would expect the Sunday ticket deal to go up until the start of the season, but you never know. |

Did you know that for the money, Sunday Ticket is not as good a deal as before? From Thanksgiving on NFL Network is showing Thursday and Saturday night games.
If Dish and Direct do not have Fox College Sports where did you pick up the west coast games, especially college hoops?? |

Yup you're right there are a few less exclusive games on the ticket. I love it though, especially when most games are in HD. Pure heaven.
I'm a basketball fan but I don't really worry about catching west coast college games. Between football and Bucks games (season tickets), I get enough college hoops on the other channels. |

Often times college hoops show up on the Fox Sports regional. With the total choice, you get a bunch of Fox Sports channels. For example, here in MN I get the Badgers hoops and hockey on Fox Sports North - not every game mind you, but usually one hockey game per weekend, and then scattered hoops games (men and women) during the week. Other colleges are on the other channels. |

That would be the Total Choice Premiere, correct? I just have Total Choice and I don't get any regional sports channels |

Yes, you are correct...sorry. You can also add it for about $12 a month to any package. Here are the channels. |

Total Choice is 155 channels and 50 XM radio stations. Total Choice Plus is 185 channels and 67 XM stations. Total Choice Premier is 250 channels and includes 31 movie channels (HBO, etc) as well as all of the sports channels.
If you don't want to get the Premier package you can add the sports package (25 sports channels) to Total Choice or Total Choice Plus for about $12 |

No, you get all of the sports channels from all regions. There are blackouts for some games. For instance you can't watch baseball games on any of these channels except in your home market (you have to buy MLB Extra Innings for that) or NBA games (NBA League Pass).
ESPNU Altitude (Colorado) Fox Soccer Fuel TV (Extreme Sports) Outdoor Channel GOLTV (soccer) TVG (horse racing) CSTV (college sports) NBA TV Comcast Sportsnet (Chicago) Comcast Sportsnet (Mid-Atlantic) Comcast Sportsnet (West) FSN Arizona FSN Bay Area FSN Cincinnati FSN Detroit FSN Florida FSN Midwest FSN New England FSN New York FSN North FSN Northwest FSN Ohio FSN Pittsburgh FSN Rocky Mountain FSN South FSN West New England Sports network MSG Sun Sports YES |

I still have not decided between Dish and DTV yet.
If you posters don't mind, would you inform me how much you spend in a normal montly bill for satellite TV, excluding PPV, XtraInnings, etc. The reason why I say this is because I am leary of paying more for 'stuff' I want there as opposed to what I am spending now for cable with less... |

I was paying (after taxes) $54.29 per month for the DirecTV Total Choice Plus, for two receivers (the second receiver is $4.99 + tax).
NOW, I have 2 DirecTV DVRs and the Total Choice Premier package, and my monthly bill will be about $90.00 ($20 credit for 6 months, then it goes up by $20). |
