Didn't see a thread on this yet.

I was going to wait to pick one up until after the PS3 came out hoping for a price drop, but got antsy after I got my new TV.

I'm not a 'gamer' nor a fanboy by any means, but this system is incredible.

Looks unreal on an HDTV. Fantastic.

Picked up 3 games right away:

Saints Row

Fun game. GTA copycat with better features. Fun game, but pretty mature. I haven't played too much because I can only play when the kids are asleep, etc.

Graphics are nice, and the gameplay is a lot of fun. Would recommend it to anyone who enjoyed GTA.

8/10

Dead Rising

What's more fun than running around and killing zombies? I say nothing. Some missions get a little redundant, but the killing of zombies never gets old.

8.5/10

Lego Star Wars: Original Trilogy

Fantastic. Great game you can play with the kids. My wife even plays it and she hates video games. Lots of fun. I like to be Chewey so I can rip bad guy's arms off.

9/10 (rating may be skewed because of how much fun I have playing with the kids)

I'm going to pick up Gears of War today. That game is supposed to be the ultimate in gaming experience. Should be interesting to see if it lives up to the hype. From what I've heard, it hasn't disappointed.

I'm really thinking of picking up Call of Duty III also. I've always been a fan of the series.

Anyone have any must have games or other thoughts?

Waiting on the PS3?

Alright, I'm talking to myself but I don't care.

Picked up Gears of War.

Best game to date. Graphics, sound, gameplay, and story are all excellent.

Very addictive.

I am go ahead and declare this the Game of the Year, and it is not even close.

I've seen the commercials and have been wanting to try it.

I got my 360 back in the Spring and I still have mostly my old XBOX games that are backward compatible. I did buy Quake IV when I first got the system. Really fun game but also very gory. Not for the little ones. Not sure how it compares to other 360 games. I think I spent 3 or 4 days on the final battle until I figured out I was totally going about it the wrong way. It was actually a little too easy when you figure out what you are supposed to do.

If you enjoyed Quake, you will love GoW.

To be honest, after I played GoW it made Quake seem like an Atari game. It is really that much more superior.

GoW is a 3rd person, but plays like a mix between 1st and 3rd.

At first I was a little leary of it being 3rd person, but after playing it, it was the only way they could have made it. Cover is VERY important in this game. You just can't run in guns blazing. If you do you will die rather quickly. The cover controls are better than anything I have ever seen. Very fun.

Pick it up, you won't be disappointed.

We got one at launch. My son (11) plays it mostly but I love it too. XBOX Live rocks. He loves COD2 and wants COD3 for Xmas. Always have bought the NBA Live series but switched to 2K this year. Madden of course. About 15 other games. GofW sounds very good.

My first complaint for Gears of War.

It is too short.

I beat it last night and I was a little underwhelmed. The ending was subpar for a game of this magnitude. After I beat KAAM I figured I'd be trudging on to something else, only to find out that was it. I was pretty disappointed.

I'm going to have to up the level difficulty and try it again.

Combining threads, is there a real threat of burnin if you hook up a gaming system (Gamecube in our case) to a big screen plasma?

I've heard it's possible if you play one game over and over that has a static portion of the display like a health meter or something like that.

I've heard that too. But I've heard that playing online really rocks.

I picked up COD3 when I grabbed GoW.

I played it for the first time last night. Which is surprising because I beat GoW and actually started a 2nd campaign before I even tried COD3 (GoW is THAT good).

Didn't play long, but from what I have experienced it seems pretty fun.

I'll probably play a lot more Friday night and will be able to give more info.

Have you guys played Splinter Cell - Double Agent? I've played all the other splinter cell games and this one is awesome. I just rented it but think I might have to buy this one. Haven't gotten to play Gears of War yet...maybe I will rent it first if it's as short as you guys say.

Yeah Star Wars lego was fun too I just rented that one as well and didn't have enough time to clear it. I did get through episode 4 and that was about it. Fun game.

Got a PS3 tonight. Waited at Sony's headquarters here in SF. HUGE line. They had over 700 consoles though. That number surprised me

I'll be selling it on eBay later today.

I don't really play console games much anymore, but I do want to try the Wii. I like how its different. We are so used to pushing buttons with our fingers to play a game, now we get to actually make the motions as if we are throwing a football, swinging a bat? That looks like fun

PS3 would be alright if only they didn't have all the other unnecessary crap on it. I just want a game console, not some computer/dvd player/stereo/microwave/toilet system where it jacks up the price of it. I mean, yeah, the new features on a lot of the consoles are great, but........I don't know about you, but I grew up just playing the game. I dont need to browse the internet from it since I already own a computer, etc

also, whats so great about the graphics? Am I missing something here? They look very similar to that of games like Half Life 2, DOOM 3, Quake 4, and FEAR on the PC, and those game out like a year ago.

Had to do some Christmas shopping and decided to buy myself a present as a reward for getting everything done early.

F.E.A.R.

I'm not ashamed to say that this game is actually pretty scary.

You'll hear little footsteps scurrying away and giggling and then catch a glimpse of a creepy girl out the corner of your eye. Pretty freaky.

1st person shooter. Fun game so far. I played about two hours over the weekend.

Great audio and graphics. Controls are a little complicated, but you get used to them somewhat.

Overall the game is a lot of fun. I think playing the game in the dark by yourself adds a little intensity to it. I had a lot more fun playing at night in the dark than I did during the day. Adds a little more ambience to the game.

8.5/10

I'm probably 3/4 through CoD3 and am impressed. Very fun. I'm stuck at a spot and was getting burnt out so I started FEAR for awhile. I have to get back to CoD3 and win it. I have a ton of games I need to trade in at Game Exchange.

Saints Row and CoD3 will probably be getting exchanged while GoW and Lego Star Wars are keepers. But I also have tons of old XBox games to get rid of.

CAPackfan-

What type of TV are you playing the games on? I could really tell the difference between the systems on an HDTV.

My wife surprised me with Gears Of War last month for my birthday. I had asked for it for Christmas.

Really fun game, everything you said it was. I agree on the ending, very disappointing. I finished the dude off with pretty conventional weapons and no real special tactics. I found some scenarios during the game tougher than the finale. Of course that was on the pansy level. I'm playing it on the medium level now and it's noticeably tougher.

Another thing that I found odd is that you really can't make a wrong step in the game. If you come up to the edge of a cliff or something, the character just stops moving. They should have made it where you can be injured or killed by falling, drowning, getting burned, etc.

As for console games vs. PC games, console games are always 2 or 3 years behind PC games. You can upgrade your PC with a better video card, more memory, etc so the video games are always pushing the limits of what the latest hardware can handle. Console hardware becomes quickly outdated just like PC's do but you don't upgrade them. You have to wait for years for the next model.

Glad you like it.

I have a feeling that there will be a prequal to GoW. There has to be. Too much of a gap between what happened when Marcus was in jail to what happened when he was let out.

They also covered some of it throughout the story of being a traitor, etc.

With as good as this game is, there has to be another game coming out. And, to me at least, seems like they are going to want to cover the whole story of what went down.

Anyone played Elder Scrolls IV - Oblivion? I picked it up from gaemstop last week for 30 bucks. Only problem is it sounds like I need to set aside the next 6 months of my time if I ever plan on clearing it.

Oh, and pick up the BK games if you haven't already. They're not bad and they're fun to play with kids.

From what I have read this game is supposed to be great.

I just don't get into RPGs, so I just can't see buying it.

If you like the genre, I heard it is awesome.

It is a great game but it was way too time consuming for me. I completed it and promptly got rid of it.

Which machine have you'll gotten? The one with the hard drive or the cheaper one? Is it worth it to spend the extra $$?

I haven't had a video game system since the Atari days. Would my best move be to try to get a 360 or a regular XBox? If a regular XBox, should I get a new one or are the refurbs pretty dependable?

I'd definitely get the Premium over the Core. It's $100 more but you get about $200 worth of stuff. The hard drive, a wireless controller instead of a wired controller and an HDTV cable. Then pick up the rechargeable battery kit for the controller. I think that is another $10 or $15.

I bought new but my original XBOX was a refurb and I didn't have a problem with it for four years. Most of the refurbs are probably the early models and have had the flaws corrected. I think there were a lot of heat problems with the early models.

From what I understand, the new regular XBox's are $180, I've found refurbed one's going for about $140 w/ shipping. Anyone see/know of any better prices around? I am still thinking about the 360, but the $$ thing is relative of course. Is it 'that' much better than the regular?

The 360 is pretty significantly better than the original. The thing that would concern me with buying the older one now would be how long will they continue to put out new games for the XBOX?

$140 seems like a lot for a refurb. My refurb was $150 in 2001 or 2002. Is that bundled with some games? If not, I'd look for something cheaper. When I sold my used system on eBay, it went for just under $100 without shipping.
