Does anyone have one they can recommend?
Here are my priorities (in order of preference) 1. Must have great sound 2. Portability 3. Clock/Alarm 4. Price/value I have my eye on 2 systems, the Bose SoundDock And the Altec-Lansing iM600 I am leaning towards the iM600 due to all of the features I want, but I'm not so sure about how it sounds. I am extremely intrigued with the Bose model because of the Bose reputation, and now that they've dropped the price on the original SoundDock (they just introduced a portable one, but it is out of my price range). Does anyone have either of these? Or can you recommend a better one? Sound quality is the main aspect I'm looking for, but it can't break the bank. |

we have the Altec Lansing inMotion IM500. The sound is very good (unless you really want to crank it, but I'm guessing you are not looking for a portable to blast the noise). One nice thing is that it charges while it plays. I picked mine up after some searching for a very reasonable price and we are very pleased.
I wish mine came with a remote, but I see the 600 does. |

Speakers, I have enough trouble with head phones. The best I've found so far are SONY MDR-027.
If I could I'd try the Bose but have always had good luck with Altec on other products. |

I went ahead and got the iM600. It was more than $150 cheaper than the bose, and it has a much more firendly portability aspect to it.
I tried them both out in the store, and while I think the sound on the Bose unit was better, the iM600 still sounded good, especially with the SFX feature that they advertise will expand the sound in a larger room. Overall I am happy with it so far. It sounds great for my purposes. |

This is the only good sounding iPod dock I have ever heard. For 600 bucks, it better be. |

Well...back to square one I guess...I just upgraded my iPod touch to an iPhone 3G...and low and behold my iM600 won't charge the iphone, but it will play music. I don't see the point of not having a charger on the unit, so I guess I'm going to have to ebay this baby. It is a shame, because I loved the iM600. It was great for its portability...
I think some company is making an adapter to work with the units that won't charge iphones (which is almost every 3rd party unit available), but early rumors are that adapter will be 50 dollars. I'll probably be better off buying the apple Hi-fi or the Sony model that is apparently compatible. Apple.... |
