I'm getting a new computer and don't want Norton,or Mcafee PRE loaded on my computer... What other anti virus programs should I consider? Are there any free ones out there that are good??

Thanks,

I'm currently using the Avast freeware on all my comupters and so far no complaints, also using the freeware zone alarm for a firewall.

I got tired of Norton's bogging down my internet slowing things up so after doing some reading on a variety of sites these two where recommended ahead of many software programs you had to purchase.

I dropped Norton's internet security and trends micro internet security.

Grisoft's Free AVG is the best antivirus software I've ever used - free or commercial.

You can schedule daily scans and daily automatic updates, and it doesn't slow my system down one bit like Norton and McAfee's both did.

ZoneAlarm is a good free firewall, but I've found the more recent versions to be too slow for my tastes. Right now I'm using Online Armor which is much faster and just as powerful.

For those so inclined, I also recommend using OpenDNS for your DNS server. It's a bit quicker and more secure than many of the ones provided by the ISP and it can be customized to block content right from the web interface.
