A year or so ago, I had created a slide show of some of my Vietnam Pics along with audio. Now that I have a DVD burner, can I put those files on the DVD (drag to disk) and will it work in a DVD player? Otherwise, How do I do it?
Thanks |

Depending on how detailed you want to get and if they're in a supported format like .jpg, I don't think you should have a problem. Most home DVD players support slide shows.
I haven't done the strict slide show thing, per se, but have create a DVD "movie" that had the appearance of a slide show with the addition of transitions, titles and menus. For this, I used a program like Ulead Videostudio. Have you tried putting your current CD in your DVD player and seeing what happens? For all kinds of DVD creating info, check out VideoHelp.com This kind of stuff can be addicting. It was for me at least. Hope this helps. *edit* I just did a real quick search on VideoHelp for slideshow and came up with this. DVD Slideshow GUI and this How to Incidentally, TMpegEnc, which is referenced by some of these guides, is a highly recommended piece of software in terms of video conversion (encoding), and the like, but it takes a little familiarity with the whole DVD thing to reap it's full benefits. It used to be freeware and freeware versions may still exist on some mirror sites. |

Smedley, Yeah, that is what I did last night. I just thought that I could take what I had previously created. It was fun working on it last night though. Not finished though. I have like 339 photos, of course with a transition between each. The viewing takes approximately 25 minutes. One problem I have though - I can only figure out how to add ONE audio file. I have a bunch of them that I had used before when I made the CD using ArcSoft Photobase3. I am now using Roxio Easy Media Creator 7.0 (and so far, some isn't that easy) Yes, I had previously tried playing my CD in the DVD player but it didn't work. CC The softwear that came with my burner is Ulead DVD Movie Factory 4 Suite Deluxe. I will try that also and see if it works differently than Roxio. Does Nero let you add multiple sound files to a slideshow? Photobase3n did, and then adjusted the length of the slide show to compensate for audio length. BUt I think that is just for CD slide shows. It's an older version |

Hauser I had Roxio 7 and found it difficult to work with (maybe it was just me). Anyway, I upgraded to Roxio Creator 8 and found it easier to work with. The upgrade (online) was $50, with the CD retail version $80. It's all personal preference, but the upgrade to Roxio 8 might be worth it if you find the Ulead DVD Movie Factory program not to your liking. I have no experience with Nero.

If I upgrade to 8, does it just upgrade what I have or do I uninstall the 7?

Hauser I apologize. I may have misspoke on what upgrade version is available to download. I checked Roxio's website and it is somewhat confusing. It says if you had version 7 you can downloaad the upgrade for $49.95. Elsewhere on the site it says you can upgrade to Creator 8 (via download,) only if you had the retail CD version of Creator 7, (I did not have the retail CD version of 7). A check of my records indicated I paid $69.95 to download Creator 8, obviously not the 49.95 upgrade I alluded to earlier.
Currently, their website offers the downloadable version (not the upgrade) of Creator 8 for $99.99, minus a $20 mail-in rebate. I believe the downloaded version will prompt you, or will automatically uninstall Creator 7 once you begin installation of Creator 8. I'm not sure if it will save your current project in 7 to Creator 8. Again, I apologize for the confusion I may have created with my initial post. I find Creator 8 easier to use than 7, but that is JMO. Good Luck. |

Under system requirements, I see I need : DirectX9 or greater QuickTime 6.4 or greater Windows Media Player 7.1 or higher How do I know what versions I have? Hunting around here, all the properties just say DirectX, QucickTime, or Windows Media Player. I can't find any version numbrs. Also, How do I tell what kind of graphics card is in my system? Optional is a 16-bit Windows compatibel sound card. Could I assume I have that? How about OHCI compliant IEEE 1394 FireWire? The system is only a year old, but I don't know what game in it from Dell. I just don't want to upgrade to something if my system won't take advantage of all that the new product has to offer. Thanks for your help |

Hauser I hear ya, but you can go to Dell.com and if you haven't already, establish an account. Once you do that you can find all the info about your system by entering your system's Service Tag number located on the computer case, either on the side, or on the front of the case, under the door that opens up to allow access to the USB ports. You'll bring up a web page with everything installed in your computer, including parts numbers. It's free and once set up can be accessed at any time on the Dell website by clicking on My Accounts, then entering your email address and password. Even if you don't want to upgrade Roxio, you can check there for software and any other updates available for your specific system.
Whatever you decide, you're welcome. |

I use a program called PROSHOW GOLD. It is great and you can easily add multiple audio files. It also has a large selection of transitions.
