This is for a little more high end system obviously.
I've had it with keeping 6 remotes on the coffee table for 5 different components of my system. There are literally hundreds to choose from upwards to $1,000.00!! Yeah, let's spend $1K on my remote. LOL! http://www.onecall.com/ProductDetails.aspx?id=33347 I'm buying this Monster universal remote. It has excellent reviews and everyone says it's a breeze to use. They even have updated software for it that works on the MacBook Pro. I'm scoring it off Amazon for about $175. It retails around $300 No longer will people laugh at me because I have 6 remotes on the coffee table! Enough! |

I always hated universal remotes. The ones I tried never worked right and were a big hassle. And then I tried the Harmony 880. Very nice. Hook it up to the PC via USB, enter the equipment you have and it programs itself. Now I just push one button to tell it what I want to do (Watch TV, play a DVD, play the XBox 360, etc...) and it turns on the right equipment and changes the inputs. Sweet.

I want to find a good one too. I just purchased the HD TV for our bedroom, and the 'universal' remote that comes with DTV lets me program it to do everything with the TV, except utilize the TVs menus (video/audio, etc). Also, when I am watching a DVD (using the remote from the TV which has been programmed to be compatible with DVD player) and if I hit the menu or fast forward buttons on the TV remote, it changes the source and cuts off my DVD. Frustrating.
Oh, and the little TV that I bought for my office downstaris. . . I programmed the DTV remote to be compatible. Now, the DTV remote lets me turn it on and off but won't control the sound. |

Exactly Hauser, that's the problem with the pre-programmed remotes. They just don't work how you want or need them to. One problem I have is having to click the volume up or down each time to move the volume 1 click at a time. On the real remote I can simply hold down the volume key and it will go up and down as it is supposed to. The remote that came with my Panasonic 60" is close but I don't have a page up/down option for the HD TIVO. Like Vegas Vic's remote this one I'm about to purchase is right up that same alley. It will be worth it to me. |

Cool!
Here is Cnet comparing the remotes. Compare Remotes I scored the Monster MCC AV100 for $156 to the door via Amazon (had $75 in gift certificates). I'll let you guys know how crappy it is once I receive it. I swear this thing better do everything it says it does. |

For the Harmony 880, where can I find a list of all the components that it is compatible with?

Hey Chuck, I think to list all the devices Harmony 880 can control would be too many to list. Which is probably why you won't find it anywhere. I even checked Logitech's website and Logitechs forum. The thing about these remotes is they are learning remotes so even if the pre-programmed part doesn't work for your component, the remote can learn your component. I'd be fairly surprised if you have some off the wall component that it cannot control.
Hey Chuck. AVS Forum has a nice long thread pertaining to the 880. Good luck! |

It also looks like they put out programming updates from time to time to add even more built in codes.
I bought the one I found on eBay. Already loaded the software on my laptop. Now I just have to wait...... |

As long as I resisted getting one I can't imagine how I got along without one. I havea sat dish, dvd player, Xbox 360 and audio receiver hooked up to the TV. Each time I wanted to use one of them I had to make sure the components were turned on, the audio receiver set to the right input and the TV set to the right input. Now I just push one button, everything turns on (and off) and all of the inputs are changed. The Harmony is fantastic. I'm sure the other ones listed in this thread are equally good.

I got an EMAIL from this dude yesterday saying he would ship as soon as my payment cleared. I replied back letting him know that my payment was via PayPal using a balance on my account. The payment is instant! Not sure what he thinks needs to clear. Never heard back from him yet. |

He shipped it yesterday. That means it will show up tomorrow while I'm in NC and sit at my front door for two days. Idot.

Only paypal payments via your checking account have to clear. It takes a couple of days. Using your balance or a CC through paypal is instant. Hopefully he shipped it when he said he did.

Yeah, I know how it works. That's why I questioned him. He never did answer but waited 4 business days to ship. I'm assuming he's just too stupid to know any better. The good (???) news is he actually got it to FedEx a day later (today) so now it won't show up until Tuesday and I'll be home then. FedEx Home delivers Tuesday-Saturday. |

LMAO! I ordered my Monster remote from Amazon 2 days after you ordered your 880. The Monster will be showing up on Monday using UPS ground. Yours is showing up via Fedex 1 day later. That Ebayer sucks! |

It came today but of course I got sent out of town by my wife/boss to fix a problem at one of our plants that's about 4 1/2 hours from here.
So I got it unboxed and plugged in to charge up. Looks cool, that's about all I can say about it for now. |

I would never plant a garden 4 1/2 hrs from the house. Ours is right out the back door? PH, we are |
