I bought a laptop computer and was able to transfer my purchased songs from my iPod to the laptop... However, when I take songs off my desktop (non purchased ones)and copy them to my iTunes library on my laptop the only way they will play is when the flash drive is in the port.. The minute I take the flash drive out, those songs won't play? Answers?

Thanks

I'm not sure what your saying.

You may need to import them to your library even after they are copied or as I do go into the itunes folder and click on the file there so itunes plays it and lets it know where the files is on the computer. itunes is trying to access the files on the flash drive instead of the computer.

When I copy songs from my desktop to the flash drive and then try and put (paste) them into iTunes on my laptop the only way those songs will play is if the flash drive is in the USB port... The laptop by the way was authorized... I had no problems when I would take my flash drive to my daughters desktop and copy songs to the flash drive and put them onto my computer.........

That is weird, have you tried recording them to a CD and importing them that way or is that not and option?

R man,

Go here. iPod support

There's a link on how to transfer your music to a new computer. A iPod can also act as a data transfer device, like a flash drive. Read the support article and it'll show you how to put the iPod into "disk drive" mode, which allows you to transfer your music in file format to your computer. Then you simply open iTunes and import those files to your library.

It sounds like you accidentally imported directly from the flash drive or you need to go under "Preferences" then "Advanced" and check to see what folder iTunes uses as a default. It may have changed it to that flash drive and that's were it'll always look until you change it.

PM me and we'll get the info. Go to the support page first, you should be able to download a full iPod manual in PDF format from there as well.
