Does anyone have any advice in where to purchase cables or any experience with these type of cables. I am making the jump to HDTV and just looking for general info on connections between DirecTV HD DVR, DVD and Home Theater etc.

Thanks

One thing you don't want to do is pay big money for "name" HDMI cables. There are numerous online places to get them cheap. I bought a one meter (about 3 feet) cable for $15 and a 3 meter (about 10 feet) cable for $25 from partsexpress.com. Best Buy sells a 4 foot Monster HDMI cable for $85 and UP. BB has Acoustic Research HDMI cables for about $50 (6 feet). As you can see it's much cheaper to order online.

I love using HDMI. My DirecTV receiver has HDMI as does my DVD player. My audio receiver has HDMI switching. So it's one cable from my DirecTV box to my receiver, one from my DVD player to my receiver and then one from the receiver to the TV. Unfortunately my Xbox 360 doesn't have HDMI, only component so I run the component to the TV and a digial audio optical from the 360 to the receiver.

I'd look on eBay. You can get an HDMI cable for less than $10 shipped.

The digital optical cable will probably run a little less than that.

I'm also not big on the overpriced stuff like Monster Cable.

I've bought from this company several times (via eBay or direct from their site) and have no complaints.

Walmart, if your lucky your local Walmart will have Philips brand in the clearance section for $20.

You can also try www.newegg.com :

I'd recommend Monoprice as well. Good cables. Cheap price. Quick delivery. I recently bought an HDMI cable and a switcher from them. They work great.

When I got my HR10 DVR from DirecTV, it came with an HDMI cable. When I got my H20 receiver, it didn't. So, On the bigger (32") TV in the bedroom, I have HDMI but on my little one down here I run component cables and the picture is pretty darn nice anyway.

I am due to get my HR20 DVR soon and will see if there is an HDMI cable included with it.

If you need the cable, call DirecTV and tell them you didn't get it. It should be included in the box.

Thanks for all the info. I wasn't sure if the receiver would come with one or not. Most equipment you buy now doesn't come with any cables.

Hauser,

The HR20 does NOT come with an HDMI cable. That's why I picked one up from Monoprice for cheap.

I got my HR20 on Monday. I like my HR10 (HD Tivo) better, but it's not bad. Just different.
