It has the 3 "bulbs" or lnb's visisble like the one above that Vic posted. However, on my direct tv order when they installed the one I currently have it says 5 lnb multiswitch dish. I have the H20 receiver.
Direct tv is suppose to be here between 6 and 8 tomorrow morning to install the slimline dish that vic posted so will let them figure it out. |

Run it through the guided setup and select 5LNB. When they came out to install my new dish the installer didn't do that. I did it myself. I didn't even know the channels were there until now. NFLN and B10N in HD. SWEET!!
Hopefully your price increase rumors are as accurate as the delay rumors. |

I'm getting only about half the channels, I have a 771 code on some of them.
I have a tech coming out tomorrow--can't wait for that debacle. I've never had a good experience with a DirecTV appt. before. |

If you are getting some of the new channels but not all of them it sounds more like a programming issue than as equipment issue. I don't know anything a tech could do, it probably has something to do with the way they have your account programmed and could probably be fixed on their end. Although I guess it's possible a slight realignment might help, depending on the signal strength your getting on the individual transponders on 103b.

The direct tv guy showed up at 6:00am on the money this morning. He put up the slimline dish (got it tweaked in at 95 to 100%, he said he had never seen one that high) and came in and made sure all the channels were coming in. They were, I signed his ticket and he was gone by 7:30. I've had several different DTV people there before but this guy was the first that actually acted like he gave a crap. I know I for one give them a hard time because I expect a lot for what I pay them a month, this time they really came through.

You do realize a 771 is "searching for signal", right? You do realize I called the DirecTV tech support before I made the service appointment, right? I knew something was up because some of the 103 (odds) transponders were all zeros. That isn't programming. |

Yes I do know what a 771 is. But I'm curious how you can get half the channels if 103b is showing all zeros. Every report I've read where a customer got some channels and not others was because their account wasn't programmed correctly.
Sounds like you are frustrated, I don't blame you. I'm just throwing out ideas trying to help. |

It could easily be an equipment issue. Voltage travels up & down the RG 6 cable to the dish and the LNB (Low Noise Block) It is 13v & 18v. The tuner auto-switches (or is supposed to) when you change the channels. It sounds like this may be your issue so hopefully the tech is supplying a new receiver (or at least has one with him/her) Best of luck! Fortunately for me one of my best friends is a satellite installer so obviously I have excellent service |

I'm not frustrated with that issue at all--I knew we'd see some hiccups with this new satellite. I am more frustrated with you, honestly. You come across as very condascending. FWIW, they came out and had to install a new dish. I had the 5 LNB dish, but not the one capable for pulling in all the new signals. He also made sure I'm ready for when sat 99 becomes available. The guy was polite, thorough, and I had no problems....for once. Now I'm all set! 101 inches of HD greatness! |

It seemed to me like he was trying to help. Hell, on page 1 he even listed exactly what you need to get all the new channels. That probably would have solved the mystery right there if you had compared his list to what you actually had. Bottom line is it got fixed, and that's great. Let's just try to keep from dropping an attitude on people trying to help you. If that becomes common, people are going to be less likely to offer suggestions. Then it gets tougher to get help when you need it. |

Geez, I was just throwing out some ideas on what might be wrong. Take a pill, have a drink, or criticize me, whatever makes you feel better.

Yup, he has a chip because I locked a thread he started on the Brewer board to call out another member. I can live with it, it's all good. The pitfalls of being a mod

I'm the same as you, getting only part of the channels on my HR20. On the H20, I get them all. I think it is a bad BBC. Channels 480 says 103b even are ok but 481 says searching for 771. Tech is coming out tomorrow with new BBCs to check me out. Easier for him to do it than me, and since I have the service plan, what the hey. But now, seeing pakrbakr's post about needing a new dish I don't know what to think. I was thinking all 5lnb dishes were capable of handling these new satellites? I have a 5lnb. It's not the slimline but it's 5lnb |

If you get all of the channels on your H20 then it can't be the dish, can it? You are probably right about the bad BBC. |

Well, the tech was here and dtermined that it is my receiver. He will put on the work order to have a new one sent and told me to call today to get it expedited. I asked him when he would be putting in his comments and shouldn't I wait until he had done so. He told me (in somewhat broken Jamaican English) that he would put his comments in tonight but I should call them NOW. He also suggested I upgrade to the new dish.
Soooo, I called and like I thought, they can't do anything about shipping me a new receiver until he puts in his comments telling them that he couldn't fix the problem. Anyway, then I asked about swapping out my old 5lnb dish for the new one, and she said that yes, they recommended getting the new KA KU (or whatever it is) dish. ll be out on the 20th of October to set me up. |

I was having many of the issues that everyone else was having - getting some of the channels and having a searching for sat. on the other channels. I finally had a decent service tech out last Friday. With my old set-up I had to get my hd locals via my off air antenna, so I had a diplexer (sp?) (I would call it a splitter) in my line and you can't have that with the new HD channels.
Hopefully that made sense and hopefully it helps someone. |

I took my H20 (that I knew was receiving all the channels) andswapped it with my HR20 that wasn't. Had the same problem with the H20, so that told me it wasn't the receiver.
So, I called called the Prevention people, got a gal that was (seemed) very knowledgeable and told her that I would rather not deactiviate my old receiver since I had tried my H20 and the same problem was occurring. She left it activiated, had me connect the new (refurbished) unitt and try it again. Same problem, some channels ok some not. I suggested it might be in the connections outside, as the cable runs along the house and then splits off and one runs up to the bedroom where the problem is, and another runs the length of the house and goes to the other TV that has no problem. Anyway, the tech that is coming to install the new dish on the 20th will look at all connections and determine the problem. (I hope) The gal told me if there was any corrosion or anything in one of the connections, it would prevent that signal from getting through |
