I know there is a computer section, but I figure I'll get a little more traffic here. Feel free to move it or delete it after I get my help!

My wife is having issues with her blackberry and I'm trying to wipe it and start over for her. The directions have me going into DOS and changing the directory, but it's giving me an error message and won't let me get in. Here's what I need to :

1. Start a Command Prompt in DOS from the PC (Start >> All Programs >> Accessories >> Command Prompt)

2. Change the directory to: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader

* If you do not know how to navigate to this directory follow instructions in 2a)
quote:

2a)

From C:\ prompt type:

cd Program Files
cd Common Files
cd Research In Motion
cd AppLoader

In my Command Prompt, it gives me:
C:\Documents and Settings\CoPackFan>

After typing in the above info, I get a message saying: C:\ is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

What am I typing in wrong?

I'm assuming it displays a blinking cursor after the >. At the cursor type cd \program files (no C:\)
The prompt should now say: c:\program files>
now type cd common files\Research In Motion\Apploader
Prompt should now say: c:\program files\common files\Research In Motion\Apploader>
You should be able to type dir to display what directory you are in

Try typing:

cd..

to back out of the extra driectories of Documents and Settings\CoPackFan>

If you do cd.. twice, you should get back to the root C:\

then type the commands that they suggest.

Or just type:

CD \

to get to the root directory.

What was the first version of DOS you used? Mine was 2.1. DOSSHELL was so unecessary.

I've actually coded using punch cards, caught the tail end of that level of technology. Played with programming on a TRS80 too. Paid $400 for a TI/99 when it was hot stuff. Roll Eyes

Doesn't make me a computer guru, but the above means I pre-date DOS... wheelchair

Did some of that in school, too. Did you also have the boards where you plugged that actual little wires from one part of the board to another, that you would put into the hardware? I have a friend who's a computer ace not even 2 years younger than me, and he'd never seen one of those boards until I found one inside an old card machine in the back of a lab and showed it to him. Wondering who else may have played with those in school. Not that any of you who did will jump to admit it. Razzer Or maybe your teachers just never showed you what made those cards work. Big Grin

I wouldn't remember, it was so long ago and my exposure to programming that way was minimal.

But it's the equivalent of being able to say I walked uphill to school both ways in the snow barefoot. Laughing
