My Tivo officiall died this week when some ice storms rolled through are area. The power going off and coming on several times during the day finally did it in. When it tries to boot up, it comes to a green screen that says I have a serious error. I called directv last night and they are sending out a new one in 3 days and the lady tells me to keep the one I have. They do not want it back. So now my question....I have about 10 Packer games on there that I haven't transfered to DVD yet. There has to be a way to get that hard drive out and hook it up to a computer to read what's on there. Has anyone heard of this or know a good link to getting stuff off of it?

Completely unplug the TIVO from any power source for at least an hour.
I'm assuming this is an HD TIVO. Are you trying to view it via Component or HDMI? (Is it HD TIVO?) Use S-Video or other std. definition if so. If it is an HD TIVO Make sure you set the resolution on 480i/480p. I've seen the green screen before and performing these steps resolved it. If that still doesn't work, search the net for extracting video off a TIVO hard drive. Information is out there. |

Hope you are able to recover the Packer games, btoner43. Only 10% of the TIVOs that suffer the GSOD recover on their own. Of that percentage, some fail permanently, shortly thereafter.
Seems as though DirecTV is more up front than Time Warner. We recently had to replace our Time Warner HD-DVR cable box. We got a black screen with the message: Cable Card Failure, remove card and reinsert it to restore service. I followed the instructions and managed to get it to reboot, then received a message: Your service will be restored momentarily. The message was still on the screen 8 hours later. When I took the cable box in for an exchange, the clerk informed me the cable box only has a hard drive, it doesn't have a cable card. She insisted the problem was with our TV, she would need to schedule a tech to come and fix it. I insisted the problem was with the cable box. She reluctantly exchanged the cable box, still insisting the problem was our TV. I've since found out the instructions to "...remove card and reinsert... is wrong. It's supposed to read, ...Call Customer Service... There is a cable card in the box, but removing it in that manner may short it out and cause more damage, hence the need for a tech to come to your house. |

Direct TV was really good to me. I pay for the protection plan and anytime I've called them they take care of the problem pretty quick. I've done some reading about putting the hard drive in the computer but it doesn't sound good about getting the games back. I'll probably have to rely on the people on this board to get my hands on them. But with Brett retiring I'm sure there will be a flood. If I can't get the games back I'll have another 60gb hard drive I guess.
