My department needs to re-think how we store our files and documents. I started proposing some changes but met with resistance. One co-worker is on board with me and the supervisor is willing to listen.
So... my first thought is to look up industry standards for storing and documenting files and reports in a production environment. I haven't done any searches yet, this is my first stop in doing homework. Can anyone recommend ISO and/or industry standards for directory structure and file storage? Thanks |

How are they being stored now?
Are you looking for actual documents management or just keeping them in a central location for backup purposes and reducing multiple copies? |

Everyone just pretty much stores stuff wherever they want. That's not true for everything but it's a mess. It's not a backup/storage issue, it's a where-is-everything issue. I am particularly interested in any type of standard for starting a project from scratch to completion in terms of where/how files related to the project should be stroed along with all other projects. You'd think this is easy but try changing the mindset of a group that doesn't want to change and a supervisor who does not have a technical background. I would be able to make improvements if I can present an industry standard that describes best practices. I Did find an ISO standard but I didn't realize you have to purchase the related materials so I can't see what is involved with their methods. |
